Crossrail
Europe's largest engineering project
The Case:
The ambitious US$ 22billion Crossrail project, to be completed in 2018, will carry up to 200 million passengers a year through the heart of London and out into the regions on both sub-surface and mainline routes.
The Challenge:
To build the necessary consensus to deliver an unprecedented multi-partner funding package, and the legislation needed to implement the rail scheme, and to develop a political engagement programme to maintain that support through the years of major construction impacts across London.
The Solution:
From 2007 we worked with the project sponsors TfL and DfT* to create the campaign that won the necessary political, legislative, business and funding backing for Crossrail to go ahead.
With plans for up to 30 trains/hour and eight new central London stations, the sheer scale of Crossrail presented unique challenges and opportunities. Maintaining and enhancing stakeholder, media and partner support was crucial to a successful outcome. This was especially true of the complex political requirements of the 22 local authorities through which the railway passes, as well as the multi-faceted funding package requiring a wide range of London stakeholders to remain fully engaged in supporting the programme through to its successful delivery in 2018.
