Kowloon Cultural District

A 40-hectare new cultural district in
Hong Kong

The Case:

This major new urban district was developed on land reclaimed as part of the Hong Kong international airport programme. The Hong Kong Government planned to develop this key urban space as a massive new cultural and artistic hub to do justice to the city of Hong Kong as one of the world’s most vibrant and populated cities.

The Challenge:

The programme finally got underway in 2011 following years of political debate, and we were asked to work with external partners, including UK construction companies, to forge relationships with the key sponsors of the development ahead of the main construction works.

The Solution:

We established links with the project delivery partner charged with turning the Government’s planning vision into an artistic and cultural reality. We have successfully introduced external partners to them, ensuring full understanding of the project’s ambitious cultural vision and goals and building collaborative links as it now moves towards the procurement phase. Challenges remain to build and maintain sufficient political support for the full funding this massive project will need, and we are well-placed to continue with our partners to steer and contribute to this vigorous stakeholder debate.
